Although we started as a small lay-led congregation, UUCL has since grown to employ the services of a half-time UU minister. Sermons are given by our members, guest speakers and by our minister Reverend Evan Keely. Worship services often encompass the musical offerings of our choir and performances by guest artists. We encourage a diversity of spiritual views, operate democratically, and invite members to participate in services and enlighten us with insights from their spiritual journeys. UUCL was founded in 1990. Our original members met at local schools and buildings until 1999, when the congregation purchased and renovated the AME Methodist Church on Gleedsville Rd. in Leesburg, Virginia. Our members and friends meet on Sundays, and often during the week for various congregation activities, in a small, charming chapel built late in the 19th century by the descendants of freed slaves. The sanctuary retains many of its original features, including German siding and French Gothic windows.

Caring CommitteeThe Caring Committee's goal is to respond to the perceived needs for counseling in our community. Interested church members, who later became known as the caring committee, met with our consulting minister for some training in confidentiality and knowing when to call for professional help. One of the hardest parts about providing this kind of pastoral care to each other is knowing when it is needed. If you know of a situation where you or a member of our community could use some help, either practical or just providing a compassionate ear, please contact the Caring Committee. For more information, to volunteer to help, or offer a suggestion, please contact the committee chair at caring@uuloudoun.org |

Social Action CommitteeUUCL's SAC mission is mighty: to create an inclusive multicultural religious community that promotes health, justice, peace, liberty and cooperation in Loudoun County, our nation, and the world. In practical terms, we meet monthly to organize and promote activities that will help create change in our congregation and local community. For example, forming teams to help clean roads of trash, help at local food banks, glean apples from nearby orchards or participate in demonstration marches. The committee also reviews and selects opportunities to contribute money from our budget towards social causes. To a lesser extent, we work on national and international efforts that promote our mission and values. For more information, to volunteer to help, or offer a suggestion, please contact the committee chair at sac@uuloudoun.org

ChoirIt has been long been accepted that the UUCL had little in the way of vocal talent. Well, that has all changed! The UUCL Choir, now in its third year, has added welcome dimension to services at our little sanctuary. The Choir works together with the Worship committee and speakers to introduce hymns and appropriate secular music into services about twice a month. Inter-Generational services are especially fun for the children who become part of the Choir and sing for the congregation. And we can't forget the wonderful in-house pianists, guitarists, and drummers who provide beautiful accompaniment. |

WomenSpiritWomenSpirit, the UUCL Women's Spirituality Group meets once a month, usually on a Friday evening at the church, where we sit on the floor, light candles and share goodies. Sometimes we have a previously announced agenda, sometimes not, it depends on the current needs of the women. It's a time for us to share what it is to be a woman and help each other in our times of need. A time that we can just kick back and relax in a safe place with friends who often have, "been there, done that". A few hours of escaping our daily responsibilities go a long way. Adult Religious EducationJust because we're grown up doesn't mean we have to stop learning. Adult RE classes are provided by members of the church as well as our consulting ministers. Topics of the past include: "Philosophy of the Soul", "Unplugging the Holiday Lights", and "UU Parenting". |

Worship CommitteeBecause UUCL has been a lay-lead congregation for most of its existence, the Worship Committee has had the responsibility to provide for the service every Sunday. Even though we are not a large congregation, we are a very theologically diverse one. The Worship Committee has worked to provide diverse services that provide spiritual nourishment and inspiration to the all in the congregation. With advice from church staff, committees and other segments of the congregation, the committee is responsible for establishing themes and engaging leaders/speakers from within and outside our congregation to lead our worship. The committee also recommends to the board and administers a budget for stipends to the speakers and musicians. Over the years UUCL has developed a set of rituals and a service format that has become important to the congregation and to members' sense of belonging. The Worship Committee has used this a base to guide the types of services scheduled and the way the services are conducted. Peggy Fallon () is the contact person for this committee.

Building and Grounds CommitteeThe Building and Grounds Committee at UUCL is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the physical space at our church. This includes all the normal day to day repairs of church itself, landscaping and maintaining the grounds, and improving the quality of the space to better serve the needs of the Congregation. Over the years, we have received valuable “sweat equity” from members of the congregation, usually in the form of a work day, which can be fun and a way to build our spiritual community. Our next major project will be to increase the size of our religious education classrooms, which we hope to have in place in the fall of 2006. The Building and Grounds Committee needs planners and workers—talk to Dan Davis if you’d like to help:
