Governance

UUCL is governed by a board composed of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and three At-large members, elected every two years in a staggered arrangement. The Minister serves as ex-officio member of the Board. UUCL holds one congregational business meeting a year to discuss major decisions and approve budgets. Much of the work of running the church is done on a volunteer basis along with three paid staff, (all currently part-time): a Minister, a Director of Religious Exploration, and an Office & Facilities Administrator.

UUCL is a self-sustained, independent organization governed by an elected board of 7 members to uphold the mission of the congregation and work towards meeting their annual goals. The Board meets monthly and is composed of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and three At-large members, elected every two years in a staggered arrangement. The minister is an ex-officio member of the Governing Board.

The Board sets goals each year. The following were established for the 2024 – 2025 church year.

    1. Governance and Ministry: Clarify governance structure and roles and create a shared understanding – who makes what decisions; who is responsible for which areas of governance and ministry, what is shared ministry in this congregation, etc.
    2. Space: Develop a plan to address short and long-term space needs. Initiate early stages of the plan based on board and congregational direction.
    3. Living the Mission: Develop a missional long-range plan.

The Leadership Council consists of the Governing Board, all committee chairs and the staff (minister, director of religious exploration, office & facilities administrator). Committee chairs are volunteers. They report monthly to the Board. Each committee has a Board liaison that serves as a point-of-contact between the committee and the Board. The Leadership Council meets six times a year to foster creativity, interaction, sharing of ideas, solutions to issues and to maintain the overall success of the congregation.
