Personal Journey Service

Our annual personal journey service – today 3 of our newer members will share with you their path to Unitarian Universalism.

Summary:

In this sermon, three members of a Unitarian Universalist congregation share their personal stories of moving from traditional religious upbringing to a more liberal faith community. Each speaker highlights a distinct path: one transitioning from a strict Baptist background through a career in global intelligence, another moving from Catholicism toward universal spirituality and social justice, and a third evolving from Episcopal traditions following a career in the military. They commonlly describe a struggle with dogmatic discrepancies and a gradual shift toward rationality, nature, and personal responsibility. Despite their diverse professional lives and family structures, they all eventually found a home in a covenant that values lifelong learning and individual seeking. Ultimately, the narratives illustrate how unique life milestones can converge into a shared commitment to inclusive spiritual values.
