One service: 10:00am, in-person & online. This summer’s theme is The Dinner Guest Series. Each service leader will choose a person/persons that they’d like to have dinner with and then base a sermon around the teachings of their life. This Sunday’s ‘dinner guest’ is Nicolaus Copernicus, led by Jeff Erikson.
What is it like to discover that beliefs held by you, your family and nearly everyone you know – including the most powerful people in the world – are contradicted by science? Would you keep it to yourself? Would you whisper your “truth” to your close friends and family? Or would you loudly declare that the widely-held worldview is wrong, and provide the evidence to prove it? Would you persist even at great personal risk?
Our dinner guest is Nicolaus Copernicus, the 15th century astronomer that demonstrated that the earth orbits around the sun, and is not, in fact, the center of the universe. We will discuss not only what led to his discoveries, but also what it was like to experience the wrath of other leading scientists, politicians, and the Protestant Church.
A link to view the service online will appear on the site at 9AM.
